Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein said Dustin Pedroia’s fractured left foot is healing really well.
“He went through a period where he was having some pain in a slightly different part of his foot,” Epstein said. “Doctors determined it was basically a result of having the foot immobile for so long, which is reassuring that it had nothing to do with the fracture. He’s healing really well. Working out. He’s not wearing cleats yet but we’re going to be smart about it.”
Manager Terry Francona added: ”I think like anyone who has had a screw put in or had an injury, you have some days where you are so thankful when you feel those little milestones or breakthroughs.
“I think from talking to him and the people that are running his rehab, that he is going to come through this with flying colors. Saying that, you know what — the first day we’re down there (at Spring Training) we do the 300-yard shuttle. We may not let him do that. It might really aggravate him. We might but he got a screw put in his foot. We’re going to try to take care of our guys. We’d be crazy not to. We’re going to check with him every day — like we always do anyway.”
