A day before the Iowa debate, Mitt Romney has launched a new TV ad, underlining his differences with rival Mike Huckabee on the issue of immigration.
The 30-second spot, called “The Record,” will air in Iowa only and presents Romney as opposed to giving benefits (like driver’s licenses and college tuition breaks) to illegal immigrants, while Huckabee is not.
Last month, FactCheck.org complained that Romney puffed up his record on immigration in a different ad aimed at Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. FactCheck said Romney’s November ad was telling the truth technically, because he did give state troopers the power to enforce the immigration laws. But the ad was still misleading, the organization said, because Romney waited until he was almost ready to leave office to do so, knowing that incoming Bay State Gov. Deval Patrick would overturn him.
This new December ad drops out the part that FactCheck.org thought was misleading.
