Barack Obama, who is rapidly gaining ground on Hillary Clinton among New Hampshire voters, received the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter today, according to the Associated Press.
The first-term congresswoman from the Granite State had repeatedly pledged that she would not pick a candidate, but decided to go with Obama.
“I said I would not publicly endorse unless there was a compelling reason to do so. And for the past year, through the hot summer days and the snow, I did not. But now, I see that compelling reason to step out,” Shea-Porter said in a conference call arranged by the Obama campaign.
Rep. Paul Hodes, the state’s other U.S. House member, endorsed Obama in July and serves as a national co-chairman.
