Thursday marks a wake-up call for Bay State residents without health insurance to get enrolled or run the risk of paying a fine under the new mandatory health program. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney helped craft the plan, which is meant to make insurance affordable. He’s touted it as a better solution than Hillary Clinton offers, although he’s admitted the plan isn’t perfect.
Now, for the question Giuliani’s campaign is asking. How much will Romney get slammed if a lot of people get socked with the fine for failing to enroll, which could cost them $219? Estimates are hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents have not yet signed up for coverage. The actual deadline is Dec. 31, but because of the waiting period, Thursday is the last day people can be guaranteed they’ll have the insurance on time.
