Danny Diaz, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, says Hillary Clinton’s campaign is conflicting with her voting record in the Senate.
Clinton released ads in New Hampshire and Iowa on Friday, highlighting her new $50 billion strategic clean energy plan.
“And where would I get the money?” Clinton asks in the commercial. “I would take away the tax subsidies from the oil companies. They don’t need your tax dollars anymore.”
But such promises to cut foreign oil imports and mandate tougher fuel efficiency standards for vehicles aren’t something that Clinton has been for before, according to Diaz.
“If Hillary Clinton was serious about energy independence, she would have supported renewable energy legislation when she had the chance,” he said.
Energy bills Clinton voted against in the Senate:
July 2005 – The Final 2005 Energy Bill, which would have required the use of 7.5 billion gallons of renewable fuels by 2012.
July 2003 – The 2003 Energy Bill, which would have required utilities to increase their reliance upon renewable fuels.
June 2003 – A vote that would have required gasoline refineries to use five billion gallons of renewable fuels by 2012.
April 2002 – The 2002 Energy Bill, which would have required utilities to increase their reliance on on renewable fuels.
