Sunday on Meet the Press, Fred Thompson was asked if he planned to ditch campaign co-manager Philip Martin, whose record for dealing drugs had come to light. Thompson, who has been using Martin’s plane to campaign, said he was just learning about Martin’s criminal past but had not yet had a chance to talk to him.
“I’m not going to throw my friend off the bus for something he did 25 years ago,” Thompson said. “On the other hand, I’m running for president.”
Thompson said he would have to do the right thing.
Martin resigned from the campaign Monday, according to the Washington Post.
