Sam Brownback is expected to call it quits. He is holding a press conference Friday afternoon in Topeka, Kan., and sources close to him said he will announce he is dropping from the 2008 presidential campaign. Earlier this week, Brownback failed to meet the filing deadline for the Utah primary and a call to his campaign office was not returned. Brownback entered the race on Jan. 20 and hit the trail supporting anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage legislation. He finished third behind Mike Huckabee in the Iowa straw poll. It was probably the last straw for him and his floundering fundraising efforts.
Update: Brownback did indeed announce Friday that he had decided to drop out of the race.
