Mitt Romney is one of few candidates in this primary with adult children helping him campaign. One of them, Ben, has to bow out sometimes because he is in medical school at Tufts. John McCain’s children have not been able to do much stumping for him, according to McCain’s wife, Cindy. Two sons, John, 21, and Jim, 19, are in the military and have to steer clear of politics, she said. “They’re restricted legally.” The McCain kids became familiar faces in the 2000 New Hampshire primary, but now they’re older and it’s tougher to clear schedules, she said. Daughter Meghan, 22, just graduated from Columbia University and has been busy job hunting, and 15-year-old Bridget is still in high school and too young fto strike out on her own. John McCain also has three children from his first marriage to Carol Shepp. They help when they can, but also have their hands full taking care of their own lives.
