Supporters of Democratic presidential candidates put on a show before Wednesday night’s debate at Dartmouth College, using costumes and creativity to get attention.
Recent Middlebury College graduates Jamie Henn and Jason Kowalski supported Step It Up 2007 with attention grabbing costumes.
“We’re trying to call for real leadership on global warming,” said Henn, explaining why he was dressed as George Washington. Kowalski, dressed as a snowman on a September day that reached 87 degrees, handed out pamphlets about the group.
Retired Manchester firefighter Skip Herbert played the bagpipes as he led a line of firefighters dressed in bright yellow “Firefighters for Dodd” shirts around the campus green.
Priorities Campaign, a group focused on reducing Pentagon spending, had the crowds smiling as its PigMobile circled the campus. The pink, piggy bank-shaped van tows two smaller pigs, which the group says is intended to demonstrate America’s misplaced spending priorities.
