John McCain is devoting more and more campaign time to New Hampshire, with the latest swing through the Granite State this weekend on visits to the Seacoast and Southern New Hampshire.
Jim Barnett, state director of the McCain campaign, said the senator is gaining momentum as more and more people get reintroduced to him.
This week, WMUR/CNN poll results showed McCain gaining 5 points over poll results in July.
McCain was the choice of 17 percent of the polled New Hampshire voters, putting him in a virtual tie for first with the other top GOP candidates, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani, once the margin for error is factored in.
“We consider New Hampshire ground zero for this campaign,” Barnett said. “This is a critically important state. We’ve just got to let John McCain be John McCain and do what he does best.”
That means meeting with voters, looking them in the eye and talking to them directly, he said.
