A report today on the Drudge Report Web site said that the secretary of state’s office has been making runs to several towns to bring extra Democratic ballots.
The report said that many New Hampshire towns, including Pelham and Nashua, were experiencing shortages due to the high turnout.
According to the secretary of state’s office, however, no towns are running out of Democratic ballots. But the office has fielded calls from several towns concerned about how many ballots they have gone through. Even if the towns were to run out of ballots, they would be able to use their absentee ballots until more of them arrived, a spokeswoman for the secretary of state’s office said.

Vietnam veteran Jim Goodnow, who owns the Yellow Rose of Texas Peace Bus, has complained to New Hampshire state police about a driver in John McCain’s convoy.
Goodnow said McCain’s bus forced him into the breakdown lane on I-93 around Salem and Windham. Goodnow said the peace bus was traveling behind McCain’s buses on Sunday afternoon and tried to pass. But when Goodnow pulled into the left lane, one McCain bus cut in front and straddled the two lanes.
Goodnow said this continued for a distance. Then that bus and the other McCain bus, the “Straight Talk Express,” both pulled into the left lane.
Goodnow moved the Yellow Rose of Texas Peace Bus into the right lane, and as soon as he drew ahead of the McCain buses, the second McCain bus pulled back into the right lane, forcing him to brake and go into the breakdown lane to avoid a crash.
Goodnow got off the highway at Exit 4 and called police. He is also contacting McCain’s campaign. He said two children were riding on the peace bus and could have been injured.
McCain spokesman Barry Flynn said he would not comment on the allegation.

Fred Thompson won’t stick around the Granite State waiting for the votes to be counted.
While the other Republican hopefuls are throwing parties for their supporters, Thompson will try to get the jump on the next primary by launching his 11-day bus tour through South Carolina. His campaign says he’ll start the bus tour in Greenville, S.C. at 9 a.m. tomorrow and wind up in Columbia before the polls close in New Hampshire.

Before the debates started Saturday night, dozens of people arrived at Saint Anselm College. They represented causes they hope the candidates will support.
Among the crowd was Diane Pickles of Haverhill, Mass. She held a sign with pink ribbons. Pickles said she was advocating for Susan G. Komen for the Ciure, which wants more dollars for breast cancer research and screenings to prevent the disease.
Pickles said she’d like the candidates to commit to closing the health care gap between rich and poor in the U.S. Because health insurance is so costly, many people do not get cancer screenings, which would help with early detection and save lives.
Pickles, it turns out, has a second local connection. She’s related by marriage to Pelham police Sgt. Michael Pickles.

Charles Gibson, the ABC World News Tonight anchorman, quizzed the Republican candidates about their changeable politics on Saturday night. After asking about their principles, he then interrupted former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani when he tried to put himself in the tradition of Ronald Reagan.
Here’s an excerpt from the ABC News transcript:
GIBSON: Let me interrupt you for just a sec, because, with all due respect, many of your fellows here on this stage have said you’d had to moderate an awful lot of your views to get within the mainstream of the Republican Party, and that you don’t believe now what you believed when you were a mayor.
Governor Huckabee, you’ve been accused of having been a tax-and-spend governor when you were in Arkansas and changing your beliefs now.
Governor Romney, I don’t have to go into how many times they’ve told — called you a flip-flopper in terms of issues and what you believed as governor of Massachusetts.
Congressman Paul, with respect to you, I don’t know that you’ve changed much, except your party…
(LAUGHTER)
… because you were a Libertarian when you first ran for
president.
Senator Thompson has been accused of running on a more
conservative record for president than when he was in the Senate.
And, Senator McCain, you’ve been accused of moderating your views on the Bush tax policies in order to get into the mainstream of the party and on immigration, to moderate your views.”

Fergus Cullen, chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party, has decided to pull out of the partnership with Fox News’ Republican forum Sunday night.
The reason is because the network opted to exclude Duncan Hunter and Ron Paul from the televised event. Cullen tried to convince Fox News to open the forum to all of the candidates. When that failed, he announced that the state Republican Party would withdraw as a partner in the forum.

Mitt Romney and John McCain are scrapping for the New Hampshire Primary victory, and the Romney campaign took the gloves off today with a Top 10 list of times McCain called his esteemed colleagues jerks — and other names — going all the way back to 1995 when McCain and then 92-year-old Strom Thurmond reportedly had a scuffle on the Senate floor.
Romney has complained that McCain has resorted to personal attacks in an effort to win on Jan. 8.

ABC News and WMUR-TV have set the line-ups for Saturday night’s back-to-back debates. Only four of the six Democrats in the race will be on stage, and only six of the seven Republicans, because of a qualifier which has been challenged by both Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley and Republican Fergus Cullen as unfair and not in the tradition of the New Hampshire primary.
The Democrats who will debate are Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Barack Obama, and Bill Richardson. The Republicans are Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson.
Duncan Hunter was eliminated on the Republican side because his poll numbers are too low and he failed to place high enough in the Iowa caucus. The same fate befell two Democrats, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel.

Bad connection? Romney campaign calls for McCain spokesman’s resignation
Jan 4th, 2008 by Margo Sullivan
Tom Rath, a senior advisor to Mitt Romney, is calling for John McCain’s campaign vice-chairman to resign for saying the Romney campaign might have been behind the telephone push-poll which delivered disparaging comments about Romney’s Mormon religion and unfavorably contrasted his military service to McCain’s record.
“A half-hearted apology cannot undo these reckless comments,” Rath said. “This election should be about issues and not baseless accusations, and I am calling on Senator McCain’s New Hampshire Vice Chairman to immediately step down so that we can all move forward.”
