“Life is good” has teamed up with Sonicbids to select one final band to perform at its festival on September 24, 2011 in Canton, Mass.

There is only one slot available and the Life is Good Festival team wants to find the best band in America for this opportunity.

To be selected, the band must have an incredible live show, great songs and most importantly, an optimistic vibe.

The winning band will perform on the same lineup as Ray LaMontagne, The Avett Brothers, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Levon Helm.

To submit a band for consideration, go to http://sonicbids.com/lifeisgood. There is a $10 submission fee for bands to be considered and 100% of Life is good’s proceeds from the Festival will be donated to the Life is good Playmakers.

Applications will be accepted through Aug. 15, 2011.

Broadway Across America – Boston announced today that single tickets for the national tour of Broadway’s AMERICAN IDIOT,  will go on sale Friday, July 22, 2011 at 10am.

AMERICAN IDIOT, a 2010 Tony Award®-nominated Best Musical and 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The book is by Armstrong and Michael Mayer and direction is by Tony Award®-winner Mayer (“Spring Awakening”).

The acclaimed creative team also includes choreography by Olivier Award-winner Steven Hoggett (“Black Watch”), and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Pulitzer Prize-winner Tom Kitt (“Next to Normal”). The Tony Award®-winning scenic design by Christine Jones and the Tony Award®-winning lighting design by Kevin Adams will also be featured in the tour.

Nominated for three Tony Awards®, AMERICAN IDIOT is the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world. Through incredible spectacle, thrilling performances and with the hope embodied by a new generation, AMERICAN IDIOT has given Broadway audiences the time of their lives night after night since the musical began performances at the St. James Theatre in March 2010.

The musical features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track “American Idiot” from Green Day’s 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album. Also included in the score are several songs from Green Day’s 2009 release “21st Century Breakdown,” and an unreleased love song, “When It’s Time.”

AMERICAN IDIOT premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009 and played through November of that year. In April 2010, the musical opened on Broadway.

Haverhill native Andre Dubus III has been getting raves everywhere for his latest book, “Townie.”

Here’s another from Salon.com.

This is an unusual story of the making of a writer, and a completely unforgettable one.

The “Tonight Show” host had a chance to drive the 1938 Beetle – reputedly the oldest working Beetle, as well as the 2012 model.

See his take on  the cars here.

He reprises the role he played in the show’s May finale!

What’s his local connection?

His mom taught at Andover’s Pike School. He attended Brooks and Phillips here in the Andovers. I don’t think he graduated from either, to follow his acting ambitions.

Read about it here.
