The coolest critters to ever rock celluloid also have great taste in music. Fans of the band Boston were excited to learn that their favorite rock band is also popular with those cool as cucumber Penguins: Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico.
Watch and listen carefully until you see those wacky penguins pop an 8-Track into the dashboard of their jeep. Suddenly, the multi-platinum recording, “More Than A Feeling,” written and recorded by guitar wizard Tom Scholz for his band BOSTON fills the theater.
Scholz said, “What a kick to have them to use my song in the movie! Helping animals is my passion and I loved the original Madagascar movie. Now I get to watch the sequel with the penguins partying to my guitar licks! How cool is that!”

Me: Where are you from?
Tony: I am born and raised in Philadelphia.

Me: How did you get into music?
Tony: I’ve been singing and performing since I was 2. Then when I was 14, I started dancing and choreographing professionally. So my music got put on the back burner for a while. It wasn’t ’til my mid teens that I really started to break away from the dance industry and concentrate on being a recording artist.

Last night, the show at the Lowell Memorial Theater was “Back to the Future” all over again. I relived the ’90s, and how sweet that experience was. Collective Soul, Blues Traveler, and Live gave an awesome performance.
Collective Soul started the show, and played, among others, some of their more well known songs, such as “Shine,” “Hollywood” and “December.”

Who knew bluegrass tunes sung in Mandarin Chinese could be so good?
My husband and I were treated to some fabulously bizarre music by Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet at Lowell’s Boarding House Park last night. And I mean that in a good way.
The band features legendary banjo star Bela Fleck, who has been nominated for about 21 Grammys and won eight, which was the draw for us. We quickly came to know the rest of the band — fiddler Casey Driessen, cellist Ben Sollee and vocalist Washburn on banjo — during their intimate, jovial performance.
