Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication and other prescription drugs. That’s the findings of the New York City medical examiner, according to the Associated Press.

The cause of death was “acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine,” spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said in a statement.
The medical examiner’s office only provided generic names, so it is unknown whether he took generic or brand-name drugs. … continued »

Britney’s woes

Maybe I shouldn’t start blogging about Britney. I fear I might never stop, because there seems to be no end to the tragedies that befall this former American idol.

However, I feel compelled to say: Thank goodness her parents have stepped in to take control of the situation. Maybe they aren’t perfect, but having Britney committed seems to be the right move.

Well, that was a short ceremony. It was great to see so many talented people get recognized.
There were few surprises in the show — it would have been a repeat of the Golden Globes, if they’d been held.
Javier Bardem picked up an Actor for his work in “No Country For Old Men” and Daniel Day Lewis also won for his “There Will Be Blood” role.

Well, the red carpet arrivals at the Screen Actor’s Guild have come and gone. I watched them on E! and I have to say, the interviews were pretty dry and very repetitive.
Enough with the “You have a great body, how do you do it?” versus “How do you manage not to appear drunk and drooling on every tabloid cover?”

Here she is . . .

Miss Michigan, Kirsten Haglund, was crowned Miss America in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

According to the Associated Press, the 19-year-old aspiring Broadway star sang “Over the Rainbow” to clinch the title at the 87-year-old pageant.

She beat Miss Indiana, Nicole Elizabeth Rash, the first runner up, and Miss Washington, Elyse Umemoto, the second runner up for the $50,000 scholarship and year of travel that comes with the crown.

West Newbury’s own wrestler will be part of the WWE’s next film project — 12 Rounds, which will begin shooting in New Orleans at the end of this month, according to IMDB.
Cena will play Detective Danny Baxter in this thriller set during Mardi Gras. The story follows an evil crime lord who forces Baxter into a battle of wits to save his girlfriend.  Renny Harlin (”Die Hard 2″) will direct.

Actors may boycott Oscars

The Academy says the Oscars will go on without the stars — but will anyone really watch it? Yes, there’s even more news coming out of Hollywood this afternoon. This, too, just came in from the Associated Press:

Heath Ledger found dead

This just in from the Associated Press:
NEW YORK (AP) — Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence, and police said drugs may have been a factor. He was 28. Police said Ledger was naked in his bed with an unknown number of sleeping pills near the body.
