Spotted at the Celtics

Beyonce and Jay-Z took in a Celtics game last night in Boston. They were spotted (and photographed) by staffer Tim Jean.

Rob Lowe, shooting a film locally here in the Merrimack Valley, was also in attendance — unfortunately not in the front row, like the newlyweds.

According Tim, the pair — rooting for Cleveland (ouch) didn’t seem to be that interested in the game. Jay-Z spent a lot of time texting and … continued »

Lowell goes D-List

I love Kathy Griffin.

For this reason, I was totally excited to see her perform last night in Lowell, Mass. The comedian did back to back shows, with barely a rest in between.

Her act was a typical one for Griffin | telling the audience tales from her life in Hollywood.

However, I was particularly amazed by the fact that she was so current in her stories — she tackled Paula Abdul’s gaff this week on “American Idol” … continued »

Hanson is coming to town

The brothers of “Mmmbop” fame are headed to the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom this week.

I have to confess, I interviewed them during the early years (the late ’90s). At the time, I remember thinking they were a little precocious. But in talking to Zac Hanson about where the band is today — and all the good they’re doing for the poor in Africa — I was really impressed with how down to earth they seem … continued »

This just in:
Raine Maida, best known for his gig fronting iconic Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace, has branched off on his own and created the record he was always meant to make. The Hunter’s Lullaby, set to hit on August 26th (Kingnoise Records) is a collection of 10 commanding songs that are poignant and lyrical, delivered in a style reminiscent of the 60’s beat poets with hip hop influenced beats of today. A courageous album by an artist who is reveling in the freedom of creative and commercial independence.

An interesting tidbit from a press release I received today:
JibJab, the online entertainment studio that shattered viral video records with its political parody “This Land” is now offering users the chance to put themselves and their friends into hip-hop megastar Snoop Dogg’s latest video, “Sensual Seduction”.

With JibJab’s ‘Starring You!™’ technology, users can upload their photos, cut out their heads and cast themselves and friends in the Snoop Dogg video. The incredibly fun, unique experience can … continued »

Celebrity chefs

I have a friend who calls cooking shows “food porn” and I have to say — she’s totally right.

I’ve watched people make amazing dishes on these TV shows. I think the point is to get you to make it yourself at home.

I think I’ll stick to toast — and perhaps my specialty — burnt scrambled eggs.

I used to think I was alone in my lack of culinary skill –then I saw professional chefs make Gordon … continued »

FRIARS CLUB TO ROAST “TODAY” SHOW CO-ANCHOR MATT LAUER

Close Friend, Colleague, and “Today” Show Co-Anchor Al Roker, to be Roastmaster

NEW YORK, NY– NBC’s “Today” show co-anchor Matt Lauer will sit for his turn at the roasting pit on Friday, October 24, 2008 when the Friars Club hosts its annual, star-studded Celebrity Roast Luncheon at the New York Hilton Hotel. The event will be hosted by “Today” show weather and features anchor Al Roker, who accepted the title of Roastmaster. Lauer will have to sit quietly as he suffers the best zingers and wittiest one-liners from some of the funniest entertainers in show business. Although as fair warning to the roasters, he does admit, “I plan to give as good as I get!”

Courtney’s good point

Courtney left this message and I felt it deserved more attention:
Ani Difranco was always my favorite too, until I ran into her in the French Quarter in New Orleans this past weekend.

Yes, she was (gasp) rude and unappreciative. Her show is just that, a show to make money. In reality, she is totally unreceiving and unappreciative of a genuine fan’s gratitude and support.

I’m sorry to say it, but I am done supporting her fake image. … continued »

Elton

This just in from my colleague Emily, who recently saw the Rocket Man in Manchester, N.H.:
Last night, Elton John was a man on a mission to give his fans their money’s worth. He systematically knocked off hit after hit, playing — by my count — 25 songs and two encores. The two and a half hour, marathon show feature little chitchatting and surprisingly little flare from a man who is … continued »
