“Images From the Past-The Jewish World of Eastern Europe”, drawings by Andover artist, Joan Nyman, will be on display at the Daniels Gallery in the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, 1200 Centre St., Boston from Sept. 9th to Oct. 7th. The drawings, which reflect a sense of Jewish life found in the towns and villages of Eastern Europe, provide a visceral connection with the past.
Ms. Nyman, who is on the Faculty of the DeCordova Museum School, holds degrees from Wellesley and Columbia Her work has been shown in galleries, public and commercial venues, and educational institutions.
The exhibit is dedicated to the memory of the artist’s grandfather, Dr. Eli Friedman, who emigrated from a small village in Lithuania and went on to become Chief of Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital.
Ms. Nyman was head of her own business consulting firm, with no training in art, when she discovered, much to her surprise that she had drawn an exact likeness of her grandfather. The drawing of him, which began Ms. Nyman’s career as an artist, is also included in the show.
