The McCoy Gallery, located in the Rogers Center for the Arts at Merrimack College, opens its season with the graffiti-based paintings of Tim Clorius of Portland, Maine.

WHAT: The McCoy Gallery exhibition of Tim Clorius’ paintings provides a fresh perspective on the question of the relevance of abstract painting for viewers.  Director of the McCoy Gallery David Raymond describes Clorius’ paintings as “an exuberant collision of formal and feeling, full of visual surprise and rowdy artistic behavior.”

WHEN: The exhibition runs from August 31 - October 2, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m - 5 p.m.  A reception will be held on Thursday, September 10 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - the public is invited.  McCoy Gallery is handicap accessible.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Clorius has established himself as a graffiti artist and he blends this street-based art with elements of 18th and 19th century narrative painting and abstraction in a body of work he calls, “Free Form Flow,” which he has been developing since 2002.  He arranges visual interests into a narrative that is joined to abstract structures providing a sense of the moment expressed with emotive and visual power and an experience of depth.
