As part of the Skin Cancer Foundation’s Road to Healthy Skin Tour 2009, the mobile screening center will stop in Wilmington on Monday, July 27th, 2 to 4 p.m., in the DUSA Pharmaceuticals’ parking lot, 25 Upton Drive.
Local dermatologists will perform free full body skin exams and provide informational materials to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, prevention and treatment of skin cancer and pre-cancers.
More than 10 million Americans have pre-cancers and while most lesions remain benign, a study has shown that up to 10 percent develop into squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common form of skin cancer, within an average of two years.
The Road to Healthy Skin Tour aims to provide early detection services and to raise awareness about the most common form of cancer in the United States that kills approximately 10,000 people annually.
