Tonight is a big night for American Idol, with two contestants getting eliminated.

In last week’s post, I wrote that I didn’t know what movies the songs “To Really Love a Woman” by Bryan Adams, and “The Rose” by Bette Midler were from.   I’d like to thank reader Davion, who pointed out that the song “The Rose” by Bette Midler was the theme song of the movie “The Rose” - starring Bette Midler.  Thanks for pointing out my lack of knowledge when it comes to the Bette Midler film catalog, Davion.

This week, we each picked two contestants to get knocked off.  Here are our choices:

Jo-Anne MacKenzie (New Hampshire Editor): Matt and Lil - Matt - I just can’t take the hat anymore. They wasted their save.
Lil - She should have been gone weeks ago. She peaked early and it’s been all downhill from there.
Marc Fortier (Sunday Editor): Allison and Matt - Matt Giraud should have gone home last week, so I think the voters will correct the error the stupid judges made by using their “save” on him, and Allison just doesn’t seem like she’s going to win the whole thing, so I think it’s time for her to go. A safer bet would have been Matt and Lil, but I picked Lil to win the whole thing in the beginning, so I’m sticking by her.

Jarret Bencks (Reporter and the Postmaster): Anoop and Lil - I’m going to be honest with you, readers - I have no rationale for my picks.  But I have to get it right one of these weeks, right?

Eric Parry (Reporter): Anoop and Lil -  Anoop - He hasn’t been good for weeks.  I don’t know who’s still voting for this guy but he needs to go.  Lil -  She’s in over her head at this point in the competition.  The backup singers sounded better than she did.

Meghan Carey (Former Reporter, American Idol enthusiast):  Lil and Matt - Now, I know I voted for Matt to win it all, but I’ve learned a lot over the last few weeks. Everyone who is on now is pretty good, but neither Lil or Matt stand a chance of winning. They’ve both been in the bottom three, and Matt’s even been voted off before. This time, there will be no saving him. I don’t think JoAnne wanted me to cast the same vote as her, but these are the new rules (and she isn’t my boss anymore, so I dared to steal some of her glory). We’re both right, after all.

Emily Moffett (The Intern): Anoop and Matt

Jim Kimble (Reporter): Danny and Matt
