The Merrimack Valley in general, and Andoverites in particular, are a little outraged. Favorite son Jay Leno, has been knocked by Channel 7-WHDH.
The station has vowed not to run Leno’s new primetime show this fall. Instead they plan on starting a 10 p.m. newscast. Why? In my opinion, it’s all about the Benjamins.
When local stations run a network program, the majority of the advertising revenue goes to the network. When local stations throw on their own programming, they keep all the ad money.
The owner of WHDH also knocked the program in reports saying it wouldn’t be financially successful.
Well, I don’t think Channel 7 needs to be throwing stones. Both newscasts on that station and sister station, Channel 56, have been pretty low in the ratings. Will this help? It’s doubtful, in my opinion.
Now NBC is threatening to break with WHDH.For more, check out my story tomorrow morning.
