It’s time for the axe to fall once again in America’s favorite weekly popularity contest. Here’s who we think will be sent packing tonight. To clarify, our picks are made on a first come - first served basis, which appears to be developing some newsroom rivalries.
Jo-Anne MacKenzie (New Hampshire Editor): Megan - I drove to work two hours early so I could get first dibs on Megan. I’m just going to keep voting for her until the rest of the world wakes up.
Marc Fortier (Sunday Editor): Matt - Once again, I got scooped because people made their picks on the night of the show. Next week, I’m camping out outside Jo-Anne’s house so I can get my pick in before anyone else. My initial pick was Anoop, because I heard a clip of him singing on the radio this morning, and it sounded like someone gargling. But Rebecca had already picked him. Jo-Anne tried to convice me to pick Scott, but I couldn’t do it. She claimed his Billy Joel was terrible, but I heard the judges — particularly Paula — loved it. So I’m going with Matthew Giraud, mostly because he’s the least interesting of the remaining contestants. And even though Lil got knocked around by the judges last night, I’m confident that she won’t be sent home, and will remain in the running to be your next “American Idol.”
Jarret Bencks (Reporter and the Postmaster): Kris - I came up with a great idea for a theme: every contestant has to either sing a song by an artist that shares their first name, or a song with their name in the title. Kris singing Jesus was a Capricorn, Lil Rounds doing Lil’ Wayne, and Allison singing an Elvis Costello song by the same name. Now that’s an episode of American Idol I’d watch!
Eric Parry (Reporter): Lil - I just don’t think it was the right song choice for her. At this point in the competition song choice is almost as important as singing ability.
Emily Moffett (The Intern): Adam - There were only two left so I picked the one that I didn’t choose to win the entire contest.
Rebecca Correa (Former Reporter): Anoop
Meghan Carey (Former Reporter, American Idol enthusiast): Scott - I actually think Scott did pretty well this week, but he isn’t showing a lot of range. I mean, Billy Joel? C’mon, who wouldn’t have guessed that? If he doesn’t stop hiding behind the piano, he’s done.
Jim Kimble (Reporter): Danny - Not that it’s paid off for me yet, but once again i followed the advice of my boss. In her defense I was the sixth person in the office to make my pick.
