Upon entering the newsroom this morning, I was astounded at how many of my colleagues actually watched last night’s show. Were they not aware that the Celtics were playing the Orlando Magic in a game with critical playoff implications?
Watching the Celtics game gave me a great idea for a fifth judge for American Idol. Tommy Heinsohn. It’s pretty clear the guy needs to retire from the basketball color commentary field, but his catch phrases and general curmudgenery would be a perfect fit for the show. I think his habit of spending more time complaining about referees than analyzing the game would translate well to the American Idol format, can’t you just imagine him ripping into Randy, Paula, Simon and the new girl?
But, I digress. Here are our picks for who will get voted off tonight:
Jo-Anne MacKenzie (New Hampshire Editor): Michael - I chose Michael to lose tonight because Rebecca picked him to lose last week and I always trust Rebecca’s judgment.
Marc Fortier (Sunday Editor): Anoop - I picked Anoop, mostly because everyone else apparently made their picks the night of the show by text message and the only other options were people who the judges loved on Wednesday night. Besides, I haven’t heard anyone say yet how great Anoop has performed during any of the prior weeks. That said, I think Jo-Anne’s going to win this week because the oil rig guy should never have lasted this long.
Emily Moffett (The Intern): Danny - I think one of the reasons Danny’s stuck around so long is because of the death of his wife. I don’t think he’s really that fantastic of a performer and eventually his sympathy vote has to run out.
Eric Parry (Reporter): Scott - I can’t vote for a man wearing pink pants, sorry. Song choice was poor and I don’t think the show can afford to lose any more female contestants.
Meghan Carey (Former Reporter, American Idol enthusiast): Megan - I chose Megan because her song hurt my ears. I was eager to watch and place an early vote this week to make up for being the last to cast my vote last week. I haven’t heard her sing songs in her niche, so maybe she’s good. But she just wasn’t this week. Plus, I don’t have much allegiance to her since she doesn’t spell her name with an H.
Jarret Bencks (Reporter and the Postmaster): Allison - According to reporter Eric Parry she did “pretty good.” I don’t trust Parry’s judgement.
More picks to come…
