Growing up, “Dirty Dancing” was one of my favorite films.
When I heard “Dirty Dancing” was going to be made into a stage show (I think musical is the wrong word — the principle actors don’t sing) I was worried that my favorite movie would be massacred.
But the more I find out about this show, the more promising it looks. The original version was launched in Australia back in 2004. Since then it’s played in London’s West End, Toronto and a few other hot spots.
“Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage” is currently on a small U.S. tour, before it heads to Broadway. That tour brings it here to Boston’s Opera House on Feb. 7. See my story here.
I interviewed two cast members — the Australian actor-dancer, Josef Brown, who plays Johnny Castle (the Patrick Swayze role), as well as Amanda Leigh Cobb, who plays Baby (the Jennifer Gray role). You can read that story here.
I also have this “b-roll” footage of the show coming to Boston. Would love to hear your thoughts.
