Celebrity chefs

I have a friend who calls cooking shows “food porn” and I have to say — she’s totally right.

I’ve watched people make amazing dishes on these TV shows. I think the point is to get you to make it yourself at home.

I think I’ll stick to toast — and perhaps my specialty — burnt scrambled eggs.

I used to think I was alone in my lack of culinary skill –then I saw professional chefs make Gordon Ramsey hurl on Hell’s Kitchen recently.

I mean really, even I know white chocolate, caviar and scallops can’t be good.

If I had to pick a favorite chef, I think it would have to be Tom Colicchio. He looks like a man who can cook, as well as eat.

What do you think?

I’d have to go with Alton Brown, I like the way he explains the science behind cooking, it helps me remember some of the techniques. He also seems to be having fun.

I have heard good things about him. What is the name of his show?

  • stewie

he has a few, Good Eats, and Feeding on Ashphalt, sometimes he host Iron Chef America.

  • Rosemary

Feeding on Asphalt? That sounds like a play out of Ramsey’s book.

  • Aaaay!

It’s ‘Feasting on Asphalt’ — great show. Alton was recently featured on NPR about a new book based on the show. I missed Hell’s Kitchen last week, but love that angry Brit and his BLOODY RISOTTO.

Me too. I don’t actually learn anything about cooking but it’s fun to watch.
By the way, I recently picked up a cookbook by Nigella Lawson. I don’t know if I’ll actually make anything in there, but it’s definitely a fun read.
