What’s so great about prom?

Kyle recently made this comment on my “North Andover’s Prom Queen” post and I feel like it deserves more discussion:
I don’t get the obsession with prom and prom queens. Maybe it’s a girl thing. Whatever, no one watches ABC Family anyway.
I think the obsession comes from Prom being a right of passage. Prom Queen? Who doesn’t like to win things. That’s my take.

My insight on prom is well that it gonna stink because there is always someone out to ruin the whole night for you. You don’t haft to even let them but they manage it some how. My prom is coming up this weekend. There going to be a girl there that wants to dance with my fiance’ because she wants down his pants. I can’t let that happen all he wants is to be friends with her nothing more but he wont’ tell her that because he doesn’t care what she thinks. The thing is he will only be leading her on. I don’t know what to do. All i know is im going to be crying by the time prom is over with and after prom begins.
