Concert review of Mika

Got this review from a reader, Victoria:

With his edgy upbeat lyrics, wide vocal range, and charisma, British pop star Mika is a gem. He isn’t only a great singer but a true performer, who truly connects with the audience.
Mika was incredibly likable. Half way through the concert, he began a song and made a mistake with the lyrics. He stopped, laughed, said ‘Sometimes you mess up so bad you have to just start again’ — which he proceeded to do with a smile.
Mika’s music videos are known for their bright colors and funky cartoon characters, so naturally Mika incorporated these into his concert.
One of the refreshing things about Mika is that he’s not afraid to push the limits. Before singing his song “Billy Brown,” Mika told the audience he had frequently been warned that he would never be able to play this song in the U.S. “Billy Brown,” which is reminiscent of a Beatles’ ballad, follows a man who “had lived an ordinary life” until he falls in love with another man.
Another one of Mika’s songs, “Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)” was a crowd favorite. During this song several attractive plus-sized women danced around stage, as a giant blow up woman “with curves in all the right places” inflated behind Mika.
As Mika says, “A whole lot of woman needs a whole lot more.”
I encourage you to check out his music and keep this star on your radar.

Agreed. Mika is definitely a rising star.

Props to him for keeping the pop in pop music.

I love that his writing and performance style departs from the polished, dictated odes of most international performances. Great twists on common themes to make them relate to everyone in the audience! I’m also impressed that he was willing to re-start a song. Finally, a human in the spotlight!
