Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication and other prescription drugs. That’s the findings of the New York City medical examiner, according to the Associated Press.

The cause of death was “acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine,” spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said in a statement.
The medical examiner’s office only provided generic names, so it is unknown whether he took generic or brand-name drugs. … continued »

Britney’s woes

Maybe I shouldn’t start blogging about Britney. I fear I might never stop, because there seems to be no end to the tragedies that befall this former American idol.

However, I feel compelled to say: Thank goodness her parents have stepped in to take control of the situation. Maybe they aren’t perfect, but having Britney committed seems to be the right move.

The band Push Play is coming to Pentucket Regional High School in West Newbury on April 5 at 7:30 p.m. Push Play is an up-and-coming band out of Long Island, N.Y. A yet-to-be-named Georgetown band will open for them.

The concert is a benefit For Boston Children’s Hospital, sponsored by the nonprofit organization For Kidz By Teens.

I admit it — when it comes to baseball, I am not a huge fan.

One of my first rookie mistakes here at the paper was writing a “tease” for the front of the Lifestyles section: “For more on the Red Socks, See Sports, Page 12″

Yep Socks.

When one of the sports editors came out to tell me about the typo — my response was “What typo?”
