‘Whistle Down the Wind’: For $25 why not?
Feb 1st, 2008 by Rosemary
Got a great review today from colleague Emily Young about the latest show to hit the Hub, “Whistle Down the Wind.” Enjoy.
For $25, why not?
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest musical, “Whistle Down the Wind,” is having a fire sale. All tickets at the Citi Performing Arts Center (better known by many as the Wang Theatre) are just $25 — with an even deeper discount for groups of 15 or more.
It’s easy to see why the show is struggling to recoup traditional ticket prices. The plot — set in a small Louisiana town 1959 — is completely far-fetched and many subplots are never developed. But the score, a mix of rock ‘n’ roll, blues, gospel and country, was thoroughly hummable and the singing strong. The Boston theater itself is quite lovely and this might be your only chance to see the orchestra pit for less than $75.
“Whistle Down the Wind” runs through Sunday at Citi Performing Arts Center, 270 Tremont St., Boston. Tickets are $25 at the box office, www.citicenter.org, or by calling 800-447-7400. Discounted tickets are available for groups of 15 or more by calling 617-532-1116.
Praise good theater and warn other of the mistakes out there — send me your reviews of currently playing shows in the area at rford@eagletribune.com.
