New Indiana Jones Trailer

The 65-year-old Harrison Ford reprises his role for “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Lucasfilm sent me this trailer (accompanied by an Indiana Jones-like whip — that’s already been appropriated elsewhere in the newsroom).

That was nice

Glad that they gave Marketa Irglova time to say her piece.

If you missed it, the winner for Best Song, along with Glen Hansard from the film “Once,” was music-overed when she got to the mike.

If you cut down just a little on the retrospectives, people, everyone would have a enough time to thank  people.

Who am I wearing?

Old Navy, of course.

So much fashion, so little time.

My thoughts:

Jennifer Garner looked amazing in her strapless black dress. But what was up with her hair? I wanted to reach through the television and offer her a bobby pin. I mean really, aren’t there some hair and makeup people backstage?

Ambivalent about Anne Hathaway’s dress. Like the color, like the roses, not digging the shoulder drape. This is why less is more.
Love Katherine Heigl’s dress. Red, off … continued »

Hello Gorgeous

Gee, so glad they found a way to use those interviews and retrospectives show producers did in case the strike was still happening.

I was mildly interested, until the fourth one. Thank God the writer’s strike is over and it wasn’t four hours of this.

As I was about to post, I saw the “binocular/periscope” retrospective, followed by the nightmare retrospective.

It’s like they’re reading my mind.

Jon Stewart as host

I love Jon Stewart. I am totally devoted to “The Daily Show.”

I still think he’s better behind the desk, than behind a podium.

Still, I don’t think he’s doing badly — though I can’t believe he opened with the “makeup sex joke.” That was barely funny.

The thing I like about Stewart is his irreverence — like his jab at the Vanity Fair party (canceled to support the writers. Stewart quipped “Maybe they could have invited writers … continued »

Comedy recomendations

Jessica posted this reply to something I posted about a comedy contest. I thought it deserved more attention:
Glad that someone is searching for comedy from the ground up; perhaps these comedians can feed our insatiable desire for laughs in case the writers go on strike again in the future. Many of my friends have started checking out YouTube to find clever amateur talent. Anyone have any good recommendations in that arena?
So if you have any … continued »

Dexter
I have a story in today’s Eagle-Tribune about CBS’ plan to show “Dexter” tonight.

For those who don’t know, this series comes from its sister network Showtime. It’s about a Miami police forensics specialist, who is also a serial killer.

The twist: Dexter only kills really bad criminals. And the first season covers how Dexter became a killer — delving into trauma from his childhood.

On CBS, the show will air with … continued »

Magnetic Fields
Touring for the first time since 2004, The Magnetic Fields played the Somerville Theatre Thursday night to promote their newly released album, Distortion, on Nonesuch Records. With lyrics like “Let this be the epitaph for my heart. Cupid put too much poison in the dart,” it made for a wonderfully sarcastic Valentine’s Day show. The set list was filled with songs … continued »
