The Screen Actors Guild Awards

Well, that was a short ceremony. It was great to see so many talented people get recognized.
There were few surprises in the show — it would have been a repeat of the Golden Globes, if they’d been held.
Javier Bardem picked up an Actor for his work in “No Country For Old Men” and Daniel Day Lewis also won for his “There Will Be Blood” role.
(Lewis dedicated his award to Heath Ledger, who he called an inspiration.)
Bardem’s “No Country For Old Men” took home the award for best film.
On the television side, “The Sopranos” KOed the competition, with James Gandolfini and Edie Falco taking home Actors for their work, and the cast winning best drama ensemble.
Actors battling diseases helped propel their performances to success. Julie Christie won for her role in “Away From Her” — she played a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Also, Queen Latifah won for her role in the TV movie “Life Support.” Based on a true story, Latifah plays an HIV positive former drug addict working at an AIDS clinic.
She was amazing in the film, but I have to confess, I was rooting for Debra Messing. She was brilliant in “The Starter Wife” — a great comedy.
Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin took home Actors for the their work in “30 Rock.” The cast of “The Office” won for best comedy ensemble.
The show was short but sweet — hopefully it won’t be the only awards show this year.

    I was surprised that Ruby Dee won for Best Supporting Actress. I was so sure it was going to be Cate Blanchett for "I'm Not There". Bardem and Day-Lewis should pretty much have their speeches ready, they're the only true guaranteed winners this year at the Oscars. Julie Christie is pretty much guarenteed as well, but I'm rooting for Ellen Page. *fingers crossed*

    I had a feeling that Ruby Dee was going to win, just because she'd been out and about so much lately, she came into the ceremony with a lot of buzz.
    Then again, maybe it's my latent psychic abilities finally kicking in --- and I should play the lottery this week.
    Mostly I was just disappointed that this was such a boring ceremony.
    I thought the highlight was Mickey Rooney hijacking the show for two and a half minutes, looking for "Miss Latifah."
