All of a sudden, Saturday evening got a little more interesting.
Hmm. An Andover-North Andover grudge match with more than a handful of story lines to surround it.
In case you missed it, the Knights took care of business in the Lawrence Invitational opener last night, lambasting Masco to stake their claim to the CAL title.
Masconomet had the chance to claim solo possession of the championship, only to melt at the sight of Mike Weisman’s nasty breaking ball.
Andover has plenty to play for Saturday, still needing a victory to earn a state tourney berth. Then there’s the Warrior stranglehold on this tournament, 14 titles in 27 tournaments.
Shawn Carlson will most likely get the baseball against North Andover, a team I have gone on record as saying is my choice to win the Division 2 North tournament.
North Andover has capable righty Aaron Brunette ready and waiting.
Again, these are two monster rivals. I expect a classic.
Tonight, it’s most likely Victor Mendez of Lawrence challenging Methuen’s Cal Carroll, I would think, in the other first-round game.
Strange, in every endeavor I’ve undertaken the last two days, be it family, work, talking to friends, I find myself thinking about the tragic passing of Central Catholic senior Rebecca Solomon.
I never met her, never had the pleasure. My heart aches thinking about it.
It’s just such an horrific tragedy. As a parent it hurts. My deepest sympathies go out to her family. It just makes you think how lucky we all are to have what we have. And how cruel this world can be.
