Guess whose blog just got a makeover baby???
And there’s plenty more where our new look is coming from. I’m talking video podcasts, up-close and personal interviews tackling issues with the athletes and more …
To kick it off, my grand reopening if you will, I will be offering my own 2009 NCAA men’s tournament contest.Rules are simple:
Entry is free.
One entry per e-mail address.
Enter in the comments section below. Again, you must sign in with a true e-mail address so i can contact you if you win.
You must pick a final 8, final four, final 2 and a winner
You get 2 points for each team right in the final 8, 4 points for each team right in the final four, 6 points for each team in the final and 8 points for the champion.
For a tie breaker, I need a point total in the championship game.

Each entry must have:
Final 8: list eight teams
Final 4: list four teams
Final 2: list two
Champion: list one
Total points in the final: The teams combined

The winner gets a $25 gift card from a local restaurant of your choice. If we get entries from 100 different e-mail addresses or more, we’ll kick in another $25 gift card, so it could be $50.
If the winner beats me, I’ll toss in a $10 Dunkin Donuts gift card, too. But nobody’s beating me.
So there’s the deal. Tell all your friends.

Entries close Thursday morning at 11 a.m.

And while we’re talking hoops, lets go back to the North sectional ranks one more time.
I took a minute, OK I took a 90-minute session of the Pentucket Baseball preseason clinic directed by Tom L’Italien while Ollie Longo was working on his fundamentals, to do the math on the past two North sectionals.
Here’s the league breakdown:
League …………. 2009 2008
Boston City …… 5-6 4-6
Cape Ann …….. 3-7 10-9
Catholic Central .. 6-4 7-5
Catholic …… 0-1 1-2
Commonwealth 2-7 1-8
Dual County …… 4-7 4-6
Greater Boston ….. 3-4 6-5
Merrimack Valley … 6-6 7-4
Middlesex 14-4 12-4
Northeastern 10-7 4-7

Maimonides 0-1

OK, am i the only one who is stunned, not only by the Middlesex league’s muscle but the NEC as well.
Take away Central’s s 7-1 over the last two years, and it’s not a pretty picture for the MVC, which as we all know loves to boast about it’s strength. A combined 6-9 for the MVC publics over the last two years????
Wow.

If you didn’t think the Cape Ann was way down this year, the 3-7 tourney mark pounds it home after a highly-respectable showing in 2008.

Finally, with Lynn Tech down, it’s turned the Commonwealth Conference into a freebie for the most part.
