Congrats to all the champs crowned in the region, Central girls on the hardwood, Pinkerton Academy and Timberlane on the ice.
You guys deserve all kinds of credit.
Ok, now for some hoop talk.
Took in the NH twinbill yesterday, watching Portsmouth over Pelham for the Class I title in the matinee and then Salem obliterating BG in the Class L quarters on the night card.
Where do I start?
A little cruel on the Pelham front. I would have loved to see that rubber match taking place with a healthy Justin Hojlo.
Still, you have to admire the efforts by the supporting cast which allowed the Pythons to hang around and actually take the lead into the fourth quarter.
I will say this, John Mulvey’s shooting won the title. Pelham didn’t lose it.
Another great year for the Kress Krowd.
On to Salem. This will rankle some folks below the border by I said this to a parent at the game last night, and I’ll say it publicly, if Salem plays like it did last night, it would have beaten Central Catholic.
The Blue Devils chewed up a decent BG team to the point of ridicule.
Jones 7 of 8, Larosa 5 of 7, Kimball 10 for 20…
The passing was exceptional. The defense steady. That was a performance of a team looking hungry for a state title. Now, can Salem sustain it against Memorial and possibly a step further in Saturday’s title game?
A step up to the college ranks for a second here.
After watching the show Syracuse put on this weekend at the Big East Tournament, I can understand Carson Desrosiers’ affinity for the program.
Boeheim gets so much out of those kids, he squeezes every ounce.
Yeah, Jonny Flynn’s got attitude.
And Devendorf is a punk, plain and simple.
But you have to love the Cuse, the tradition, the style, the grit. Boeheim won me over after I was convinced he was a mess.
A mean the guy had Sherm Douglas, Seikaly, Billy Owens and all those guys and couldn’t win.
Yet, the Derek Coleman Era teams, the Johnny Wallace teams, they played their lungs out for him.
Carson, if you pick the Cuse, you’ll have one huge supporter in this corner, that’s all i’ll say.
Can’t believe baseball season opens Monday.
If you people aren’t familiar with my past work, you will find no more staunch supporter of the local high school baseball scene than me.
And there is some serious, serious talent around.
This region has long been ripped as an athletic desert for the lack of bigtime athletes it produces.
As “the baseball guy” I’ll stand by my sport.
Carlos Pena, Ryan Hanigan and Brian Wilson from the region in the bigs.
A handful of minor leaguers. Plenty of college players out there, too.
And look at the talent coming: John Farrell (William and Mary) and Shawn Carlson of Andover, plus Ronny Rosario of Haverhill and Michael Johnson of Brooks, they’re all potential pros.
Mike Yastrzemski of the Prep and andover, a scholarship recruit at Vandy.
Can’t wait for the ground to soften up, dry out and the season to start.
