Let it go!

I will make three quick comments:
1. Saying I want to “banish Central” is a bold, unequivocal lie, one that won’t be tolerated on this blog.
2. This blog is a sports blog, not a forum to debate the merits of public vs. private education. My take was that the MVC would be just an average run-of-the-mill without Central, that’s it.
3. Not sure if it was Rocky III or IV, but I’m begging you all, “Let it go. Let it go!”

  • CCHS ’57

The big (and only question) should be just where does CCHS want to be on the sports scene. Does the school want to make the commitment to expand it’s sport’s presence on the national scene?

Central is on a great run right now so people are claiming it is unfair. The difference to me this year is Derosiers. His size makes it so hard to score. But lets look at a longer period of time: 80′s, Central was good, sometimes great, sometimes just average. They , in my opinion, tended to under perform in the state tournament. Andover and Lowell in the MVC consistently challenged them and often out performed them in the State Tournament. 90′s, Central was consistently good but again were challenged by Andover and Methuen who had a nice run in the mid 90′s. Haverhill had a really good group in the late 80′s, early 90′s. I think it was 95 Central was undefeated and lost to Methuen in the North Finals. Recently Lawrence has given Central everything they can handle and more, winning the North in 2005.

Scott Hazleton helped them win their first state tournament but they never won one with Cruz. The last few years, they have performed very well in the state tournament often time beating a higher seed (Lexington, Charlestown). Last years game against Lowell in the Tsongas was great high school basketball. Central won’t have that many down years but won’t always be this good. I would rather see the publics rise to the challenge of beating Central rather than shuttling them off into another league. Without Central in basketball, the MVC goes from an elite league to an average league.
