Wow, some great games out there tonight with the one I took in, Lawrence’s upset of Wilmington, right at the top of the list.
A monumental Lancer effort in the win, just huge.
In a 10 minute span, from two minutes left in the first half to the three-minute mark of the third quarter, lawrence show just how dangerous it is, ripping off 27 consecutive points.
Then, they morphed back into the usual Lancers, hurting themselves at times, only to come up with the huge stop in the final 30 seconds.
Gutsy call by Wilmington to go for two there, but in reality, the Cats had already missed a pair of pat kick attempts. It was worth the try.
Idle thoughts:
Wilmington QB Steve Stewart is an absolute handful, one of the most elusive runners I’ve seen this fall.
Humongous effort of the night and possibly the fall goes out to LHS qb Ramon Heredia, who had been struggling mightily and was actually benched last week
All Heredia did against the Cats was hit 15 of 23 for 242 yards and three scores, running for a fourth.
His most impressive play of the night might have been the resounding lick he laid on Stewart after the Wilmington star had picked off a halfback option pass. Heredia, who doesn’t play defense but might have coach Mike Yameen re-thinking that strategy after the hit, absolutely leveled Stewart.
The heavy hits were all over the field, Donea Robinson, Aaron Blanco, Julio Valentin to name a few.
Tough break for Demetri Brown, who absolutely lined up a perfect block downfield to spring Heredia on a 50-plus yard gain, only to be whistled for a block in the back.
MIT physicists couldn’t have found a way for that block, from that angle, to be from behind, but luckily the horrendous blown call didn’t cost the Lancers.

Is Mike Calzetta the best-kept secret in the CAL? The Lancer junior caught five balls for 98 yards and two scores. He’s a ferocious blocker. On Francis Nova’s 50-yard TD, it was Calzetta engaging the corner with one block then reaching out with a free arm to ward off the charging safety. With that room, Nova, even on tender ankles, was gone.

Enough on Lawrence, though.

Commendable effort out of Pinkerton, which led Brockton 27-7, only to be nipped 28-27.
Losing Eric Guinto in the first half had to be huge, but sources close to the Astros say the shoulder injury doesn’t appear too bad.

I’m shocked by the BG loss to Billerica.

You have to give it up to first-year coach Kevin Fitzgerald, whose Owls busted in on the BG/Exeter monopoly atop the D2 standings by stomping the Blue Hawks.
Tough to find flaws with that offense as Erik Hatton airs it out and Derek Furey, the region’s first 1,000-yard rusher (congrats!) chews up the turf. T’lane’s looking mighty dangerous.

How about all the points, Londonderry 55 against Memorial and Dracut 55 against Andover. I hear the Middies piled it on pretty good with some very late deep balls. Coach, that’s not the way to make friends and influence people. There’ve been some pretty lean times on lakeview Ave over the past couple decades. This is not the time to open some fresh wounds.

Those aren’t fresh wounds Hector they’ve been there awhile. The bad blood already existed. Good for Dracut!

Lawrence has some of the biggest kids i have seen in the cal.#76 and #78 were some big boys all the linemen were.
