Both Dave Dyer and I are knotted at 14-8 through two weeks of action after a rough and tumble week 2.
Looking forward to this week’s slate. Here goes:
Friday night
North Andover at Amesbury, 7 p.m.: The mysterious absence of Zac Iovanella with the very stranger injured ankle/shoulder excuses makes me quite leary about this one. Still, Thom Connors treats these non-counting crossovers like the exhibitions they’ve become because the Cape Ann coaches can’t agree on anything. Therefore, we go:
Knights 3, Amesbury 2
BC High at Andover, 7 p.m. … No freebies here as Mags’ kids takes a gigantic step up the comp ladder. Give a shout out to my man, Warrior halfback Christian Lightner, who took good care of my son, Ollie Longo, at the Warrior baseball camp this summer.
Eaglets 17, Warriors/Golden Eagles of Andover 14
Lawrence at Newburyport, 7 p.m. … Joe Clancy is back, and a couple of his mates make their Clipper return from two game suspensions. Talked to Mike Yameen and he said if things work out, he’ll be without six defensive starters. If they don’t, he’ll be down 8. Lancers again put up a fight but fall, 34-24.
Catholic Memorial at Haverhill, 7 p.m. Again, a humungous step up in comp.
Hope last week wasn’t the Hillie high point.
CM 16, HH 6
Malden at Methuen, 7 p.m. The Golden Tornadoes continue their audition for admittance to the MVC after losing tangos to Lawrence and Haverhill. Stat of the century for the Malden coaching staff, and this is a clear attempt to tell you how to coach. David Freni 6.5 yards a carry. Rest of team, 2.5 yards a carry. Give him the damn ball. Otherwise, it’s too much Methuen at Nicholson.
Rangers 26, Slight breezes 7
Pinkerton at Manchester West, 7 p.m. When the heck is the Londonderry game anyway?
The Sharks (PA) 35, Jets (MW) 0 (Get it, West Side Story).
Londonderry at Concord, 7 p.m.
I’ll match the fries at Memorial Field any other venue out there.
Other than that, I can’t fathom any other reason to made the Friday night drive up 93, that is unless you like blowouts.
Lancers 41, Tied 12
Manchester Memorial at Salem, 7 p.m. A much-needed Blue devil breather.
Gati’s phone booth offense 34, Memorial 7
Timberlane at Merrimack, 7 p.m. … Derek Furey could quite possibly break the 1,000-yard barrier in his third game. OK, probably not, but he’ll drag out another 250 at the T-hawks expense.
Owls 27, Mack 6
Greater Lawrence at Groton-Dunstable, 7 p.m. The home team in this rivalry has never lost. Why should I try to buck the trend?
G-Dun 14, G-Law 7
Sanborn at Merrimack Valley, 7 p.m. … Wow, any time you tangle with a Valley team you know you’re going to have your hands full. perhaps, Sanborn coach might want to dress A.C. Slater for this one. In his Bayside career, the kid never lost to Valley. Of course, he was going steady with Jesse Spano, and that was after he tried to scoop Kelly Kapowski away from Zach Morris. And why did AC never go after Lisa Turtle anyway? Oh yeah, the football game, sorry.
MV 23, Sanborn 6
BB&N at Brooks, 7 p.m. … Welcome to the big time coach Alex Konovalchuk. The home team delivers and we all have a late dinner, kids at Harrisons, adults at the Loft. Do they still serve the Loft Burger? By far the best use ever of Canadian Bacon, and don’t even blurt out Egg McMuffin. You’re making a fool of yourself.
Brooks 23, BB&N 17
Saturday games
Central Catholic at St. John’s Prep, 1:30 p.m. The annual Hector Longo … Why isn’t Central in the Catholic Conference anyway Bowl. Before you Raiders start ringing the bell on fuel costs and stuff, let me just say I’m kidding. Prep insider Gabriel Martinez proudly boasted his boys would inflict a merciless beating on the Raiders and send them back to Lawrence in agony. His words, not mine. Oops, sorry that was in volleyball. Oh well. We like CCHS.
Ain’t That a Shain 25, SJP 24
Pentucket at Greater Lowell, 1:30 p.m. … Steve Hayden has to take a page from Chuck Adamopoulos and put the ball in his top offensive returner’s hands more often. Jordan Silva has to throw the ball more than six times a game. Sticking with Pentucket one more time.
Sterling Silva and Co. 21, GLT 7
Georgetown at Lynnfield, 11 a.m. … You know Lynnfield wants no part of the Esposito crew.
Hard-working farm boys 23, Blue-blood pioneers 12
Narragansett at Whittier, 10:30 a.m. If Kevin Bradley isn’t a genius, who is? The guy schedules a team to make a two-hour road trip from Baldwinville and then has them playing at 10:30 a.m.
Sheer genius.
Comfy Cats 36, Road-weary Central-Massers 16
Somersworth at Pelham, 5 p.m. Ain’t no stopper the Vieira express in September. Or October or November for that matter.
Pythons 42, Somersworth 16
Phillips at Loomis, 3 p.m. …
DeOssie’s alma mater always sharp out of the gate.
Ahndover chafes Loomis, 24-3.
