Longo makes a nice little move in a tough week, going 8-5 on the grid picks, while Dave Dyer goes 7-6.
Notice, I won’t count the Merrimack College results, as this is simply a pure high school contest.
That said, 10 observations from the weekend of action:
1. Timberlane is legit, now 2-0, perhaps the surprise team in the Granite State.
2. Bruce Vieira of Pelham is truly a small school superman in New Hampshire.
3. All of a sudden, Central vs. Prep takes on some interesting ramifications with the Raiders playing fast and loose on offense.
4. Londonderry has staked its claim as the No. 1 team in NH.
5. Pinkerton’s cruise-control blowout of Memorial is simply further proof that six divisions in NH is grotesque.
6. Sanborn will win a game or two this year, I just feel it.
7. Tough loss for the Rangers, it only gets tougher the rest of the way.
8. Gritty effort by the Hillies. Word is the Malden folks got a little nasty and tried to topple a bus after the game. Any truth to that rumor, or is it simply hyperbole.
9. Nice to kevin Bradley’s boys off and running. Perhaps, the CAC large isn’t a lynn tech runaway after all.

Finally, No. 10. You know I went to the CC-Lawrence city war Friday night.
By Sunday, I heard a comment, directly from someone with CC connections, to the team, that Lawrence was chippy, cheap, showing poor sportsmanship.
Shame on the perpetrators of this comment. The lawrence-Central game was a good, clean, high-spirited contest. Yes, lawrence lost a player for throwing a punch.
It was a scrum, and the athlete in question got heated, but it’s nothing you haven’t seen before in any other high school game.
Now, I respect the official’s call. The crew was in complete control, leading to a clean game. The stripes did a good job. As we see in the NFL, everyone misses one sometimes, and in a rivalry like this, it’s best to err on the side of control.
That said, the game was a quality high school event.
There’s no need to throw out insults blindly. it takes two to tango, and both teams saw their share of flags.

Top 10 updated, 9/15

1. Central Catholic (1-0) … Air Adamopoulos takes flight.
2. Pinkerton (0-1) … Pity poor Memorial. The Astros didn’t. Hey Brian, throw Ben Proulx the football, will ya?
3. Londonderry (2-0) … Zoomed up the charts with the win.
4. Pelham (2-0) … Trinity, a Division 1 refugee, offered little resistance.
5. North Reading (2-0) … The little team that could earned some respct for the CAL whipping Tyngsboro.
6. Timberlane (1-1) … The Furey-ous Five makes their Top-10 debut.
7. Andover (1-0) … Statement made boys, the defense does not rest.
8. Georgetown (1-0) … Perhaps this team could win the CAL small after all.
9. Salem (1-1) … Still on track to reach the Division 1 playoffs in my eyes.
10. Whittier (1-0) … Nope, the Cats aren’t flying under my radar.

    Hector,
I want people to know that comment isn’t coming from our program. The Lawrence kids played clean tough football and both teams played hard. Good luck to Lawrence the rest of the way.

  • Hector Longo

    Chuck thanks for chiming in.
Let the people understand that comment did not come from any Central athlete or staffer.
As I stated before, the kids and coaches on both sides were outstanding.
