OK, opening week of the high school football season, here goes with Longo’s Longshots, my weekly blog attempt to show up big talking Dave Dyer and prove that I am that better man, when it comes to high school grid prognostications.

Friday
Pinkerton at Bishop Guertin … No coach, no victory. The Cards collapse under the pressure of Pinkerton’s speed.
Astros 24-7

Londonderry at Winnacunnet … A moral victory for the Division 2 folks. The void left by Alex Theodhosi’s graduation is gaping.
Hampton Beach High in an upset, 12-8

Sanborn at Kingswood … I give the Indians credit for even finding Kingswood High. Still, it’s a moral win in the return to the grid
Kingswood 19-0.

Malden at Lawrence … A must-win on Sept. 6? Yep, Lawrence absolutely needs this one to show the program is on solid ground. Lancer speed on the Veterans Stadium fast track. It’s enough.
Lawtown 23-12

Bishop Fenwick at Methuen … The always-proud MVC chest thumpers put their faith in the Rangers here. Fenwick should be a step or two down the competition meter. Rangers pick up some much-needed confidence.
Methuen 16-6.

Saturday

North Reading at Pentucket … Jordan Silva goes 3 for 4 with three RBIs and the Sachems take out the Hornets, despite Darren Hartwell’s three hits and three stolen bases. Whoops. Baseball’s over. Anyways, heard Pentucket has been awesome in the preseason.
Sachems and Silva, 24-3.

Salem at Keene … If I’m making that never-ending ride down Route 101, Jack Gati’s boys had better not disappoint. Hey Kyle Henrick, stick somebody.
Devils dog Blackbirds, 4-and-20 to 3

Pelham at Campbell … Bitter rivals are back at it again. Bruce is on his third encore here, and he’s still Boss of this class.
Vieira and the boys 33, Campbell 7
