Must be the shoes

Camille Fantini’s red kicks were the story Tuesday night.

OK not quite. But sort of.

(Sidenote: Check out the old “Must be the shoes” commercials with Spike Lee and Michael Jordan. Classic).

Anyway, whether the high-tops helped, the senior forward was immense. She shot well (three 3-pointers) and crashed the boards (11 rebounds). To me, one play really stood out. With 6-foot-1 Whitney Wilson crashing in, she grabbed a rebound, held on, and got fouled. Fantini is tough, there’s nothing else to it.

And so is Lauren Hughes. The senior forward got knocked down several times on the evening, but always got up and jogged it off like nothing. Battling the Wilson twins isn’t easy. Remember Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s cameo in Airplane?

Little Joey informs the co-pilot (Kareem) that his dad thinks he’s washed up. Kareem responds:

“You try dragging Walton and Lanier up and down the floor for 48 minutes.”

The Wilsons aren’t NBA level, but they’re certainly two of the area’s best post players.

Central Catholic-Andover should once again be a great matchup. The Raiders look ready to give the Golden Warriors a fight.

We shall see…
