E.j. Perry’s Salem High crew traveled to the wine cellar better known as McHugh Gymnasium at Trinity High in Manchester tonight.
The game was a rematch of last year’s New Hampshire Class L state title game, and just as was the case last March, the Blue Devils earned the victory.
This one was a knock-down, drag-out overtime wrestling match that Salem pulled out 49-45.
It was a case of “Anything goes” with both officials swallowing their whistles.
The talent on the floor, guys like Salem’s Josh Jones and Trinity’s Jordan “Air” LaGuerre were held down by the extreme conditions.
In the end, Perry got the grunt work he needs to win from the role types like Kevin Sledge and twin bigs Shawn Stoodley and Dan Kinney to get the job done.
It’s a big win for the 2-0 Blue Devils, who have one more tuneup Thursday night at home against Keene, before tackling Andover High in a potential classic at the Greater Lawrence Christmas tourney Saturday night.
