Some belated thoughts after watching “A Christmas Story” four times today.
The Greater Lawrence Girls Tourney’s first Sunday was a smashing success.
Methuen’s upset of Central Catholic deserves another look. To come back from 10 down — twice — was impressive. It was a cathartic win for the Rangers, who last beat the Raiders in 2003.

Thoughts on seven hours of Christmas tourney hoops …

Wow, seven hours of boys hoops at North Andover High absolutely flew by.
Instantaneous thoughts on the opening round:
Two great, intense games in Lawrence-Pinkerton and Central-North Andover.
Another typical Salem-Andover fist fight and a tidy Methuen win over Greater Lawrence Tech.
In case you missed it, Lawrence roared back from a second-half deficit of 18 points to knock [...]
Salem the Christmas tourney favorite? Maybe after beating Trinity!

E.j. Perry’s Salem High crew traveled to the wine cellar better known as McHugh Gymnasium at Trinity High in Manchester tonight.
The game was a rematch of last year’s New Hampshire Class L state title game, and just as was the case last March, the Blue Devils earned the victory.
This one was a knock-down, drag-out overtime [...]
Central Catholic coach Rick Nault confirmed that his Bentley College-bound senior Adrian Gonzalez will start the season on the injured list with what the coach termed “a strained oblique muscle.”
Nault said Gonzalez would be out 2-4 weeks and would “likely miss the whole Christmas tournament.”
More in Sunday’s Eagle-Tribune on this.

Just a quick note on the Lawrence High football saga.
Our sources say the Lancers will get one more, last, final, absolutely the end of the run, seasons in the Cape Ann before being forced to move back to the MVC, where it competes in every other sport.
We’ll try and track Lawrence AD Tim Finn down [...]
Quick update:
Londonderry’s Katherine Donnelly recently accepted a scholarship to Holy Cross.
The senior sweeper scored six goals and notched six assists for the Lancers, who finished 15-3-1.
She’s the second Londonderry soccer standout to earn a scholarship this year.
Robbie McLarney is headed to Rutgers.
Congrats to the Greater Lawrence Tech school community on a spectacular championship season!
Jorge Cruz interception sets up Nate Adames’ 10 yarder, to make it 19-6 Reggies.
Less than two minutes left.
Nate Adames scores on a sweet 32-yard TD with 3:39 left, but the Reggies miss the snap on the PAT. 13-6 Reggies, and it’s East Boston ball.
Reggies, behind Jason Orsini, make a giant hold on 4th-5 at the Eastie 41.
5:29 left, Reggies ball.
