Just watched the classic documentary Hoop Dreams for the 100th time. Classic movie for the prep/college hoop junkie.

And once again my ire was raised as I watched one scene. All I could think of was the way UMaine women’s coach Cindy Blodgett treated Lawrence’s Tiffany Colon, just pulling her scholarship after her sophomore year.

This quote from then Marquette head coach Kevin O’Neill, now the top assistant and interim head coach at the University of Arizona:
“Any school worth its salt is going to give you four years…”

That was a direct response to a high school coach’s question about the Division 1 scholarship being four years, renewable each year.

Are Marquette and Arizona considered small time to UMaine women’s hoop?
I don’t know. You can respond and tell me.

To me, it’s simple. Blodgett just has no clue what she is doing.
Believe be when I tell you, the program is going to suffer under her leadership. What does her resume look like? It’s bad enough that our old coach, the stumblin’, mumblin’ drunk-driver from Merrimack was a joke, but they replace her with this fool?

Shame on Maine, shame on its head joke.

It is a shame a coach comes in and not knowing much about a team starts taking away a scholarship of a player and derailing her dream away.
A young woman should not have to be put under that stress.
Shame on this coach but more on the AD that let her do that.

Ten years ago, when I was starting college, I was really worried about the money and I didn’t want to place that burden on my parents. Because during high school decided to start searching for more scholarship.
