OK, it’s been a week or so, since the last passage, so here goes.
First off, we give the proverbial pat on the back to one of the Valley’s good guys, Robbie Oppenheim, who came up just a shot short of moving on in the first stage of the PGA’s Qualifying school. Opp was five shots off the pace, heading into the final round, and delivered a clutch, six-under round of 66, but the chips (and putts) just didn’t fall the right way for Oppenheim. We’re with you, Opp, keep grinding.
Congrats to Mike Trovato getting the Haverhill High hoop job. Now, mike, the hard part begins. The program needs life. It should be interesting how Trovato addresses the first problem, keeping the talent at home.
Speaking of hoop coaches, didn’t see Lowell boss and Central football assistant Scott Boyle on his usual spot for tonights Central-Lowell battle at Cawley.
A week ago, Chris Morales, the former Raider stud and current Delaware frosh, was back in town as the Hens had a weekend off. Chris looks great. He’s playing and doing well. And did I mention how big the kid is? Yikes.
Chris was with one of the good guys in the class of 2007, point guard Junior De la hoz. The ex-Raider reports he’s at Anna Maria College in Worcester, doing well on the hardwood and in the classroom. Good for you, junior.
One more Central alum note, Chris Dion was back in town last night, returning from St. Joe’s in Maine, where he’s made the baseball roster. Congrats, lefty. And good luck in the spring.
You have to be impressed with the Greater Lawrence Tech Reggies football team, off to an 8-0 mark. All I can ask is where are the teachers and students and alums? The Reggies have built up a nice, small loyal following, but it’s time they were accepted for what they’ve accomplished and what could be ahead. Support these guys.
A shot was tossed my way by Eagle-Tribune staffer Mike Muldoon for my predictions on the Pats and my spotless, 7-0 record. Muldoon asked, just for fun and entertainment purposes only of course, what my predictions were against the Vegas point spread. For the record, we’re 6-1.
