Haverhill swim coach Rick Battistini underwent surgery Tuesday. He suffered a ruptured biceps and a rotator tear when he slipped four weeks ago vs. Chelmsford.
Assistant Greg Steinberg, who swam for Battistini at Lowell High, has taken over while Battistini has been out the last few meets.
“The girls do miss him,” said Steinberg. “They’ve done the best they can for him. They always ask about him. He’s been in touch with them. They really do miss having him around.”
This is a resilient bunch of Hillies as they’ve had to train at the Salem (N.H.) Boys and Girls Club with the Charles C. White Pool under repair.

The Haverhill seniors honored today at Senior Day. Honored were captains Katie O’Brien, Emma Donnelly, Katie Opolski, Jenn Sampson and Carly Wadsworth, as well as Allison Spicer, Rachel King, Jackie Martini, manager Jessica Papachriston and manager Amanda Rowell.
