Yikes, so many thoughts on a Sunday morning.
First a few injury updates:
Tough break for Pelham, which lost halfback Kyle Sharpe in the second half of the win over Bishop Brady. Sharpe was taken away in an ambulance with what looked like a leg injury. Best wishes, Kyle.
An even tougher break for Lawrence, which saw two-way trenchman Pedro Cruz leave the already-stinging loss to Lynnfield late. Lawrence has already been weakened inside with the ankle injury to Victor Cepeda. Cruz is arguably the lancers’ top lineman. Let’s hope he returns.
The word from the Reggies sideline late Saturday morning was that Nate Adames would be ok. Adames was on crutches in the second half of the GLT blowout of minuteman.
All right, let’s change gears a bit.
Pelham’s domination of Brady on Saturday was a true statement about the pythons presence in Division 5. It was simply no contest. And Brady was supposed to be a top dog.
A couple non-Bruce Vieira notes (and yes, he is as good as advertised).
Look out for No. 34 if you are playing the pythons. Tyler Gantt is a lethal hitter, coming out of nowhere.
Two of the really promising sophomores on the pythons, Conor McColgan, who threw a TD pass, and Corey Peterson, who scored the first TD on an interception return, are cousins.
The pelham roster lists 35 players, with a few injuries mixed in.
That does not allow for much substitution in garbage time.
Take Peterson, who started the game at linebacker with the first-stringers, and finished it in the same spot with his classmates and the other reserves. It’s not easy being a sophomore sensation.
While sticking in Pelham, we’ll head to the hardwood for a minute and talk some hoops. The justin Hojlo summer foot injury is progressing nicely.Hojlo suffered a stress fracture, and while he’s not 100 percent, he’s working back toward it, playing in a Derry Fall League.
The Python entry featured Hojlo at the point and Billy Marsden at the two, recently.
Before you Central Catholic hoop backers lose it, Marsden was only helping out as Pelham is short of bodies in the fall.
“He plays with us all the time, why not fall league,” said Pelham senior Jamie Vaiknoras.
