Eagle-Tribune Haverhill sports specialist Dave Dyer chimes in with the news that Bob Walsh will be stepping down from the Haverhill High boys basketball bench after 24 seasons. Walsh will reportedly stay on as the softball coach.
Walsh, who posted a 281-226 career mark, enjoyed the glory days for the Hillies in the 1990s, but most recently saw the club fall on hard times, playing back-to-back seasons without a trip to the state tourney.
A.D. Peter Shanahan won’t have much time to hunt for a replacement.
That one should be interesting.
Before taking off time to spend with his family and young children, Hillie golf coach and former assistant Kevin Murphy had shown interest in the past. Walsh assistant Larry Snow is another name that could be thrown into the mix.
Then there is former Whittier Tech coach Dave Fabrizio, who is the Methuen High varsity baseball coach right now.
Remember, the Hillies return a standout duo in all-league junior Charlie Roche and his MVC all-star classmate Edwin Norgaisse.
Keep an eye on The Eagle-Tribune’s sports section in the coming days for much more on the Hillie situation.
