Londonderry’s Robbie McLarney, the area’s top soccer player, has committed to Rutgers.

The three-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star (and 2006 MVP) will receive what he called a “sizable scholarship” to the New Jersey university.

The midfielder, who scored 11 goals for the Lancers in 2006, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association All-American team last fall.

He chose Rutgers over George Washington, which happens to be my alma mater. Tough loss for the Colonials, who would’ve caught a big fish in McLarney.
