OK, you heard it here first. Lawrence High junior Alex Andrews is a player, with bigtime potential.
Catch the shot of Alex in Saturday’s Eagle-Tribune hauling in a one-handed grab in the second half of the win over Amesbury. That’s athleticism. It was a huge play, a 3rd-and-13 conversion, leading to the first LHS TD.
With the good, comes the not so good. Alex has let his temper get away from him at times. He had to be escorted off the field late against Central. But Friday night, he was a gentleman on the field, a player too.
He and the Lancers will be fun to watch if they continue the up swing.
And don’t forget, on the opposite end of the line is another physical specimen, Demetri Brown, at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds.
Brown, who has a team-best six catches for 86 yards through two games, has delivered a handful of vicious crack-back blocks on sweeps … clean, above the waist, helmet in front, blind-side, clock cleaning, crunchers. Aggressive linebackers had better put the head on the swivel when Lancer No. 15 is around.

Wow, did anyone see the Londondery over Salem shocker coming? Looks like Division 1 in New Hampshire will be a duck shoot. Now, to completely keep your head spinning, expect Pinkerton to knock off West, the team that lambasted Londonderry who spanked Salem, to finish the job of confusing things in the division.

Best wishes to Mr. Fred Bradley, Whittier coach Kevin Bradley’s dad, who had to be rushed to Gardner Hospital minutes before the Cats took on Narragansett.

Finally, what is up with the two-year-old FieldTurf at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Lawrence? For a second straight week, a player went down with an ugly leg injury. Last week it was Central’s Zach Latrell and his broken tibia. This week, it was Lawrence’s Victor Cepeda and a severe ankle injury.
These aren’t strains or muscle pulls. The new artificial stuff is supposed to be safe. Let’s hope this field was done right, and these injuries are just fluke things.
