A couple of hidden gems culled from two of the bigger football victories on the weekend.

First, there is the Saturday afternoon effort delivered by
Georgetown sophomore Tyran Harrigan in the win over Lynnfield.

Listed on the Royals’ depth chart as the backup safety and quarterback, Harrigan came through big, the way teams with 36-man rosters often need.

In the blazing heat, injuries forced the youngster to step in and take over the starting fullback spot on offense and a starting corner position on defense.

“He’s a dynamic athlete, so I knew he could handle it,” said coach Matt Bouchard.

Harrigan finished as the Royals’ leading tackler on the day with 11.

“He just had a great day overall,” said Bouchard. “He was amazing on special teams. On every kickoff his nose was on the football.”

Same conference, similar circumstances where the Reggies of Greater Lawrence ventured into the Cape Ann League waters and shut out Triton.

“Our defense was amazing,” said coach Tony Sarkis, who lauded his unsung linebacking crew. “They got into the red zone three times and we shut them down.”

Leading tackler John Cote had the game of his life at middle linebacker, and got plenty of help on the outside from Jorge Cruz and Brian Rivera, in his first start at the position.

“For our program, beating a good
Cape Ann team like that is incredible. And those three guys really had plenty to do with it.”

Switching to the MVC, the news, as expected, was not good for Central’s Zach Latrell, who underwent surgery at Children’s Hospital for his broken leg, suffered in the
Lawrence game. The promising 6-foot, 190-pounder, who overcame surgery last year on his other knee, hopes to recover for the baseball season. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. . . .

Sticking with the Raiders, apologies go out to big tight end/linebacker Chris Farren, who had the key second-quarter fumble recovery that set up Central’s first score. The recovery had originally been credited to Matt Smith inappropriately. . . .

When will the Reggies utilize the best up-and cummer in High School football. The freshmen have a dynamic running back named Pizutto and his natural talent will possitively vault him to elite status. Run,run, run Joey…..all the way to the NCAA……

Some of us use stats to base our opinions on. Others use sour grapes…..All I know is you should never be afraid to sign your name to what you say or write…..Otherwise it really loses something…..as for the father comment…..I would be proud too…
