But that doesn’t mean we can’t offer readers more on our Web site, salemnews.com.

Readers can now find an wide selection of state, national and world news videos from The Associated Press. Simply scroll to the bottom of our site and click on one of the screens to bring up the video player and a searchable library. Our Masconomet High School interns, Kristina Bond and Maria Costigan, have finished up for the summer (and will be graduating Friday).
You’ve probably seen their bylines in the paper, including an interesting point-counterpoint on voting in last Saturday’s paper.

Our Masconomet High School interns, Kristina Bond and Maria Costigan, have finished up for the summer (and will be graduating Friday).

You’ve probably seen their bylines in the paper, including an interesting point-counterpoint on voting in last Saturday’s paper.

They’ve also left us with a pretty cool video on the monetary costs of teen smoking.

We’re not the only ones who were impressed. The duo was awarded first prize at a statewide film-shorts festival. The 30-second film demonstrates why Kristina and Maria are a part of “The 84” statewide youth movement, representing the 84 percent of Massachusetts youth who do not smoke. Their video was selected from more than 125 film entries as one of three first prize winners of the contest co-sponsored by Mass Youth Against Tobacco and WCVB-TV Channel 5. Kristina and Maria’s short will be shown on movie theater screens across the state during the month of June.

For more on the ‘Picture Perfect’ project, go here.

We had a very newsy print edition today, with a dramatic fire in Peabody and the release of the school audit report in Salem.

We also had a very newsy Web edition. For those who haven’t seen it already, check out photo chief Mark Lorenz’s dramatic video of Peabody firefighter Steve Franzosa being pulled down a ladder by fellow firefighters.

And anyone interested in the Salem school budget woes should check out the full text of the auditor’s report here. It adds another layer of depth to the reporting that we couldn’t get in the front-page story.

That’s not to mention day two of Building Brobot 1.0, reporter Stacie Galang’s video series featuring 11 Peabody High School students trying to build a robot.

All in all, a lot going on.
